Skin Deep – Liz Nugent

Book: Skin Deep
Author: Liz Nugent
Rating: ⭐️4.5/5⭐️

This is a character driven story which focuses on Delia. Her adoring father tells her she will be the queen of the island they live on. However, a tragedy leaves her alone in the world. Luckily, she has wits and beauty to rely on.

When I met Liz (the author) in July, a member of the audience asked what her favourite book of hers was that she’d written and said that it was this one! I was over the moon that I already had a copy.

I absolutely adored this and don’t come for me, but I actually preferred this to Strange Sally Diamond. I normally prefer plot driven stories over characters driven ones by even I appreciated how fantastic the writing was.

The first 50-60 pages were a little slow but they did provide valuable back story. After the initial lull, I was hooked and could not put this down. I finished this a couple of months ago and I still cannot stop thinking about this.

I thought this was a really powerful book and it had a lot to say. It really makes you think about beauty. Is beauty just what you can see on the outside, or does it go deeper?

If you like the sound of this, it is available on Amazon here.
