Book: The Reformatory
Author: Tananarive Due
Rating: ⭐️4/5⭐
Set in 1950, Robert Stephens Jr is sent to The Reformatory (basically a juvenile prison) for having a scuffle with a white boy. Not only is The Reformatory a horrible place to be, but it is also haunted by the boys who have died there.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. It is an incredibly difficult book to read. It is 600 pages long with teeny tiny writing and it covers some really triggering issues. Extreme racism and multiple types of abuse to young boys to name a couple.
If you are able to handle the length and the triggers, the book is impeccable and has been written so well. It is powerful and it really has a lot to say.
