Book: We Used to Live Here
Author: Marcus Kliewer
Rating: ⭐️3/5⭐️
Young couple Charlie and Eve get an old house deep in the mountains for a baragin and intend to flip it. One day, Thomas turns up with his family claiming to have lived there in the past and wanting to show his family round. Strange things start to happen and they begin to make excuses so they don’t have to leave. Charlie disappears, and Eve’s convinced there’s something terribly wrong with the house and its past inhabitants . . . or is it all in her head?
This started off so so strong. Initially I was hooked and I couldn’t put it down. The clips of Morse code scattered within the book were unique and it was fun to translate it as I read the book.
Loads of people have been saying this is one of the scariest books they have read. I wasn’t frightened or creeped out once while reading this.
After the initial excitement, I found the story slow and a little repetitive. I liked how the ending was wrapped up. However, I don’t actually understand the point of anything in the story and the Morse code message ended up being a bit anticlimactic.
