The Betrayal of Thomas True – A.J. West

Book: The Betrayal of Thomas True
Author: A.J. West
Rating: ⭐️4/5⭐️

This is a historical fiction/ thriller mash up. It is set in Georgian London and follows the gay scene and the molly houses. It follows Thomas True, a new arrival to the molly houses and a carpenter, Gabriel, hiding a double life. There is a rat betraying the mollies and Gabriel is trying to find the identity of this traitor.

I’m not the biggest historical fiction fan but everyone has been raving about this and I thought I’d give it a try seeing as there are thriller elements to the story.

This is the kind of book which gets better and better as you read it. I was on such an emotional rollercoaster for the entirety of the story! There is lots of character growth, particularly as you get towards the end. It is really well researched and you can tell the author has put his heart and soul into writing this!

As a dyslexic, I did find the language a bit tricky at times so I really took my time with this one. This is a me problem, not a book problem!

Lots of the characters have two names but there is a very handy list of who’s who at the start of the book you can refer back too. I would recommend reading it physically as it is hard to flip back and forth on a kindle.

Another reason why I would also recommend you read this physically is that I think this is one of the most stunning books to ever exist! I mean look at those spredges!
