Book: And He Shall Appear
Author: Kate Van der Borgh
Rating: ⭐️3/5⭐️
Publication Date (UK): 16th January 2025
A young man arrives at Cambridge and immediately falls under the spell of Bryn Cavendish, the popular guy who also performs magic.
The book has been described as The Secret History meets Saltburn. I have not read/watched either of these so I can’t personally comment.
This had such a strong start and I was really enjoying it. It is written well and there are a fair few “annotatable quotes” in the story too. Can we also take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous this cover is?!
However, with the slow burn tempo and the long chapters, I did start to struggle with this. I loved the sound of this but it is a bit different to something I’d usually read so please take my review with a pinch of salt.
The story flits between time periods with no warning which is a pet peeve of mine. But what really annoyed me about the story was that pretty much all the characters were unlikable yet lacked personality.
If you like the sound of this, it is available on Amazon here.
