Sunrise on the Reaping – Suzanne Collins

Book: Sunrise on the Reaping
Author: Suzanne Collins
Rating: ⭐️4.5/5⭐️

This is the second prequel to the Hunger Games series set during the 50th Hunger Games, i.e. the second quarter quell.

The story follows Haymitch Abernathy who is from District 12. He is in love, he has a doting family and the last thing on his mind is the hunger games until he gets called. As the hunger games begin, he begins to realise that he has been set up to fail.

It was so nostalgic reading this I don’t want to give away any spoilers but if you loved the first hunger games book, then you are in for a treat! I think you will also love this too.

It’s strange as we know a fair bit about Haymitch’s story from previous books, yet I was still so hooked and I was never bored reading this.

Some familiar faces in the story from The Hunger Games trilogy make an appearance which was such a nice touch. Relatives of past characters also appear in this (I won’t tell you who though as you’ll have to see for yourself)!

I gave this 4.5/5 stars as even though it was excellent, nothing will ever beat book 1 in my opinion!
